Going from 8v to 16v twincam Need Help
Hi, I found an 4g63 16-valve Twincam engine. My 8-valve is broken.
It's from the old 1988-1992?? eclipse car
What do you have to change ?
I have the Electric Loom And the Eclipse Computer.
Thats what happend to my engine :D

So what do i have to change ?
Does the engine fit corecctly to my transmission, to the motor mountings and fit nice and smooth in my engine bay?
How do i rotate the turbocharger so the inlet port is to the front ?
How do i connect the Power steering ? do i use from eclipse or starion? where to put it? how to connect it to high pressure lines ?
What Downpipe do i use? Custom maded ?
How to fit coils and do i use the same as in starion or do have to use eclipse one?
Thanks
sorry about so many questions.
But, i know about www.projectzerog.com but those questions cant be answered there :( i dont understand that much in english.
Please help an icelandic boy here!! :beer

look at the sticky at the op of this page. its easier to swap the twincam head and timing gear to your starion block..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

ok then to cut a long story very short:
u need a gearbox from a mitsubishi sapporo (i think thats what they were sold as in europe) 2 LT 4G52 engine, this has the right bellhousing pattern for your new engine (different to starion).
then change over the driveshaft yoke on your starion tailshaft to the sapporo one.
u will need the sapporo flywheel and starter and sandwich plate that bolts to back of block. as long as your new engine is a 6 bolt. if its 7 bolt u will need a custom made flywheel.
then change shifter housing mechanism to starion ones inside sapporo box.
then make a new water housing at the back of the head for the water outlet, and get a 86-90 corolla thermostat housing (inline type) and run that in the middle of your water transfer pipe to top radiator hose.
then modify all engine mounts to pull engine forward 15mm so crank angle sensor doesnt hit firewall.
then make a new exhaust manifold to face turbo correct direction.
then make a new dump pipe from turbo to exhaust system.
then swap ends with the throttle body on intake manifold.
power steering will have to be a custom job..
and then connect wiring etc, which will be a pain in the ass to get running right. unless ur an auto electrician, it would probably be cheaper to run an aftermarket computer..
thats why i suggested running a starion block. no stuffin round with gearbox then...

I think he mentioned before that he designed it.ROCKETMAN wrote:typer were did you get that xrt skin for lfs?
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

6 bolt denoted the crank pattern, NOT the bellhousing pattern. the front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive blocks are narrow pattern, the rear wheel drive blocks are USUALLY wide pattern. measure the distance between the bottom (widest) bellhousing bolts and compare them. ALL starion blocks are wide pattern. u have a wide pattern gearbox in your car (starion box) and i'm pretty sure a narrow pattern engine (eclipse).typer wrote:i don't understand why get another gearbox because its 6-bolt engine.
My starion is 6 bolt too.
And is that so much problem with those wires if i have the whole loom and computer of Eclipse ??
fitting a complete loom out of another car can be a nightmare if ur missing any parts of the loom or sensors. u also need a scan tool to read faults from a factory computer, whereas the aftermarket computers have all the info on the laptop screen in a split second, and all the wiring is brand new, so no faulty connectors or broken wires hidden where u cant see them. good luck!
