A couple of questions about tuning a 2 litre!

Post by lindahl »

Hello downunder :P

I got a Starion widebody that I´m planning to modify a little. The thought is 1 bar or 14,7 psi. It´s a 2 litre intercooled with 177 hp.
The plan is the following:
2,5" downpipe
2,5" exhaust
16G turbo
Fuel cut defender
Bosch fuelpump
K&N filter element, and modded airbox
Lightened flywheel

I want to retain the standard SPI, camshaft and internals, as it would be way to expensive to upgrade this.

My questions are:

What are the standard IC good for? It seems rather large, but does it suck?

Will it be of any good to get the standard ECU chipped, to fix the flat spots and get the mixture more right, or is it better to leave the mixture a little too rich, if you plan on running more boost?

What kind of hp could you expect when running 14,7 psi?

Cheers Martin

no it doesnt suck, they do very well!

just change to an aftermarket management and dont look back! i did however run 13.8 with the standard management, but that was with a lot of development..

with what turbo? u said a 16G, do u mean the evo 3 lancer TD05H?? i'd say between 190 and 230 hp at the wheels, depending on a lot of variables.

i recommend going 3 inch mandrel bent from the turbo back instead of 2.5, there is a noticeable difference between the two in power, for not much more cash, and good quality mufflers will keep the noise down just as low as 2.5 inch..

I thought about this one:

I don´t really want to go for a aftermarket ecu, at least not yet. Though I have a soft spot for the Megasquirt, which is also reasonable in price!

steer away from ebay turbos, easy way to get ripped off!

MRB1 on here sells those turbo's and he's 100% trustworthy..
