Alternator wiring

Post by Abalistic »

A standard Staz alternator has 2 wires into the back of it, on a plug.
One is Blue, and is fed via a fuse from the fuse box inside the car, which also provides power to the rear reverse lights.
I gather that this wire provides power to the field for the alternator.
The other wire is a white or yellow wire, ( hard to tell ), What does this wire do?
Is it for an alternator warning light, that's not used? Does anyone know where this wire goes?
On the Staz circuit diagram ( JA ) it only shows one wire in this plug.

Cut the blue wire... No, the red wire....

It's the battery charge voltage sense.

Affects voltage regulation.

The light is normally wired ip inline to the exciter line... Then if you lose
voltage from the altenator, the light comes on... You can do it with a Staz altenator also... If you wanted.

re- alternator

Post by Abalistic »

Thanks for the reply David,
I thought myself that it could be the voltage sense wire, Does it go to the fuse box or does it go to the fuseable links? There is a wire already hooked up to the oil pressure sender and it works.
There is a wire running to the instrument cluster that is marked ( in the wiring loom diagram ) as going to the alternator. But this wire does not go to the alternator.
All I really want to do, is hook up an alternator warning light, using the exsisting wiring which goes to the Dash.
I have been caught before, were the alternator fails while driving, and the amp meter tells you very little.
