White StarionTurbo - Question 1

Post by typer »

Now i want more power.

I have 1987 Starion Turbo 2.0L Intercooler Narrowbody Left Hand Steering.

Can i fit 1988-1989 2.6L ECU to my car ? Even if its from widebody, right hand steering etc ?

I know it have to be turbo intercooler also but you know us model or au model or what ever fits my europe model.

Another Question, Are there any good free mods that i can do to boost performance of my engine?

No, I doubt the ECU will work. But if you have one try it and see and get back to us.

Free mods? No such thing. Clean your air filter, make sure all electrical connections are good - no corrosion.

Larger exhaust and increased boost will not cost much but will be a start in making more power.

I can think of a couple of free or almost free mods. Weather they're beneficial enough to justify the effort or not I don't know.

The wastegates on the factory turbos on Cordias are adjustable, so the Starion ones probably are too? Wind it in as far as it will go and boost will build up faster, and in some cases slightly higher. You might be able to tap some extra thread onto it and wind it in even further, but be careful with how far you take it, if it's too tight the wastegate wont open at all.

Removing emissions bits may in some cases give more power.

Make sure you have no boost leaks at 20psi, this is more applicable when you have an intercooler.

Fit a proper cold air intake with bell mouths at both ends to the factory airbox. Replace the corrogated rubber airbox to turbo pipe with smooth metal pipes.

can't speak for every starion, but Mine hasn't got adjustments on the wastegate.

And the above link didn't work, at least not for me.
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

Hmm maybe it's only the FWD engines that had adjustable wastegates? It shouldn't be too hard to adapt a non-adjustable wastegate to become adjustable if you wanted to.

This is what they look like if anyones interested, it's wound all the way in so you can only just see the start of the thread.

the usdm cars all had ajustable wastegates. Well I cant confirm on the 83 model, but the rest do.

Pulling the arm definately makes the turbo hit a lot harder. Nice cheap free mod :)
