Short Shifters

Does anyone know if the short shifters for the 2.0litres fit the 2.6 litre gearboxes? I know the boxs are different but I think the shifters are the same. Any info on this?

when i looked at the one's on ebay U.S. the guy there said that his should fit both. haven't seen one, see if you can measure the bolt pattern on yours, must be heaps of guys here that have a box sitting on the floor that they can compare for you.

I'm pretty sure it should work. I don't think there is a huge amount between an Aussie g/box and the pre 88 US gbox. The 88/89 box is a bit different, but I think they use the same shifter. ie the kits available in the US don't differentiate between the year models.

remember that the short shift will amplify any shifting or syncro problems you might have already. I know my box is a little tired and I wouldnt bother fitting a short shift kit for that reason.

i bought a short shifter from us , one of the best things ive bought .
yes it works with aussie starion gearbox , it makes the gate shorter and closer

I actually have a 2.6 gear box. I am pretty sure that it has no problems hey, seeing as though it is only like 100,000km's old

The stedabani shifter that I have installed on my car is one from the USA that was designed for the 2.6 widey as far as I am aware.

Works fine on my 2.0 flatty :)

100% sure the 2.0 and the 2.6 shifters ARE interchangable. So YES the US Short Shifter WILL work on BOTH boxes.

mates... this one here is REALLY short not as much as the throw but as the stick itself, and the shaft is STREIGHT not bent like the original one. so if you are tall (Over 6 foot) you will find it hard to reach the shifter in the upper gears (1,3 5).

ONLY the ones made by Stedebani Industries in the US are the GOOD ones. These are made in batches and every once in a while they show up for sale.

OR make your own as outlined in the forums.

My widebody came with a short shifter. Not sure on the brand but its a funny thing to use as it moves the neutral posi to where you see it in the pic below. Back and closer to the driver. In neutral it sits up against the handbrake, when the handbrakes up. So you can't put it in reverse with the hand brake up. Once I got used to it though, it was ok.

Well i have to say is that a real short throw shifter involves different linkage. What you all seem to be talking about is called a short throw shifter but it should just be called arm movement reducer. Im not trying to cause a problem but if i could recomend i would leave your stock shifter alone because theres a saying that goes they made it that way so keep it that way. I mean i realize there your cars and you will do what you want but "short shifters" can cause damage to your trans and linkage. All these shifters do is move the pivot up on the shaft so it just makes it shorter distance that your arm moves not the linkage on the trans.

just my .02 cents but i learned about this in school just the other day so i thought i would share.
