Leaving the air can in one piece means that the air cleaner doesn't suck hot engine bay heat all day too!

I'm not sure it does suck in hot air unless your at a standstill.
Where does the air flow behind the headlight come from? Do you have one of the early front spoilers?

heya

air cleaner only gets hot air on standstill
clean air flow comes from standard air flow port in front guard or unless done else where

Logicaly, I guess, you would only suck hot air at a standstill.
But then, I have never been under the bonnet to look while the car has been driving!
I have a standard JA front air dam. When chasing more horsepower or running more boost or bigger turbo, the standard air intake from the inside of the front guard is a bit on the smallish side of things.

I can't remember which of the gurus of starions I was conversing with about this issue...it was one of them.

The problem with the cut airbox if you don't pull air from down UNDER the front bumper, is that whole area behind the headlight on that side recieves little to no airflow even at speed, the air is just not forced in that direction naturally so it does get exposed to hotter air than it would if mounted lower.

The best solution is to cut the BOTTOM of the box, and get a 3" pipe running down to the hole in the area where the water bottle is. The absolute best soluton is to replace the spray bottom so you have room to acutally stick the tube out the front so it gets direct air flow.

Each to their own though.

Here it is again. You can get air from under the front headlight.

thats a better design than the ones that are cut on the side which guarantee a power loss due to all the hot air being socked in.

the main problem with the factory can is that it sucks air through the side and has to go down and turn 180 degrees and then go up.

go to the junkyard and pull one from a huyndai which has the intake of the box further to the bottom so.

you never want it to suck air from under the hood
