??...i always got the impression that havin a big exhaust is not needed if it doesnt have a lot of hp...well suppose you'd know more than me seemin as youve tried both of them...sorry people...

I put a custom 3 inch turbo back exhaust with no cat and 1 very loud and high flow strait-through muffler on the starion. The very low back pressure increased the pressure differential across the exhaust turbine on the turbo, as a consequence the wastegate couldn't bypass enough exhaust gas and the turbo overboosted. From about 4750 rpm boost would spike at over 20 psi, it ended up that the only fix (apart from using a more restrictive exhaust) was to enlarge the wastegate.
Interestingly, the problem only occured when using either the TC06 or the TC05/06 hybrid.
I understand there are a number of other people who have experienced this same situation. I think the moral of the story is that if you are going to use a low restriction exhuast on a TC06 turbo budget for some wastegate work.

looks like i might want to finish my external wategate off. have you any idea what truck wreckers want for a valve and valve seat?!?! $50 for a decent one. (38mm) its a rip off for bits they prob throw in the bin. grrrr :x
I figured out the meaning of life, and since then every day just gets worse.

SIRIUS you are sort of right, but it only applies to a non turbo engine, backpressure at low rpm will help increase low end torque but will cut out high end hp and often this is a faster way to have it. However in a turbo car, as said, the turbo creates all the backpressure you need so anything after the turbo should be as large as possible reallly.
The problem with the wastegates is that its a shitty design, once the exhaust gas goes out of the wastegate, it takes a 90 degree turn thanks to a plate and heads into the main dump where it is at right angles to the exiting exhaust and has to go back into the flow. This is extremely bad for flow and power. The proper way to have a wastegate set up is 2 seperate pipes coming off the turbo and joining together in a Y sectoin, much better for flow.
On my to do list is the exhaust/dump, so i will let everyone know if i can get this done properly and cheaper when i get around to doing it.
