Smoke when cold

My car is blowing grey smoke when its ideling and also when u drive off when the engine is cold, but once its up to operating temp the smoke just goes away, compression test is 120psi on all cylinders, could it be valve stem seals or is this just an inherent issue with forged pistons? Thanks.

Most likely valve stem seals...

I had this problem a few monmths back.....changed them valve stem seals (which were still in perfect health) and it actually turned out to be a blown turbo....

Turbo rebuild later, it is all good again...but still doesn't seem to come on boost as strong as it used to.

does it smoke on de-acceleration too?

or only when cold?

because valvestem seals smoke on deacceleration too.

It only smokes when its cold, i've only driven it once from the mechanic to home after getting the car, this was the first time i started it when it was cold.

If i can put up with the smoking for now will it damage the engine in anyway if i leave the valve stems seals as they are?

No, it won't cause damage. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

it will only get worse mate. they arent that expensive to get replaced.

be careful you dont run out of oil... my scorp didnt enjoy that with its valvestem seals gone :(

Thanks for the replies, I realised they arent expensive but after spending money buying the engine and getting it fitted, i really dont have any more money to spend on the stems seals at the moment.

Grey smoke sounds like it could just be running rich , white smoke would be more along the lines of stem seals.

Jeez all this sudden interest in smoking cars :o

I'd check for cigarette butts. Thet'd be a dead giveaway if its smoking. Or smell its intakes. You should be able to smell the nocotine.
