Oil Pressure Gauge

Post by SpidersWeb »

Engine warmish
Oil pressure at about 1/3
Rev engine quickly to 3-35000rpm (using WOT)
Oil pressure jumps up to past the 1/2 way mark then drops to 1/3 again

It looks like a laggy rev gauge

Is that normal, or did I break something?

do you mean the oil pressure then goes up to 1/2 then back down? If so then yes, they are a laggy oil pressure gauge. They move the needle using a bimetal strip with a heater wrapped around it and have a time constant of 3-5 seconds or more (time to get to 90% of target), so the oil pressure probably rose to 3/4 but the needle didn't make it there.

Sounds fairly normal.

Mine is kinda like that. But at the opposite end of the scale. It sits up at the high pressure, but after a spirited run up to about 180-200 km/h it drops down to about 1/2. Is this a normal thing???
