Garrett T25G Conversion on my Galant (Sigma)

Post by sillbeer »

Well, after a couple of days on the T25G I'm very happy with the results of changing the turbo over from the Mitsubishi TC05-12A to the Garrett (Nissan) T25G off my old Silvia on the 4G63B you see here. There were a couple of problems with correct vacuum lines and having the standard SR20DET BOV venting to atmosphere, but once the BOV was 'plumbbacked' and Roy from C-Red sorted out the vacuum lines, all was running much better. Unfortunately I can't screw too much boost in due to a detonation problem, and the boost cut that the standard ECU has.

Now my Vacuum Advance unit isn't working, and boost cut seems to be coming in fairly early according to a Boost Gauge we plumbed in temporarily. It was showing 0.6-0.7bar when it was hitting boost cut (and pinging its tits off). I have a GFB bleed valve plumbed in as well and it's set just below boost cut (although sometimes it spikes and I know about it!).

Does anyone reckon that once the vacuum advance is working correctly again and base timing set to around 8deg, it should allow me to run a little more boost?

BTW, this is partly taken from my blog post - note to those who may get confused, the blog is about a Silvia I'm building, the Galant is my daily, but can't help myself but mod it as well.

Alot of people will set their timing at just that...8 degrees. I have had alot of success running zero degrees and plenty more boost. You can play with this all day if you have a timing light and boost adjuster.
