Engine Bay Wiring Cleanup

Post by MrGenius »

Anyone here gone all out on their engine bay wiring and cleaned up the engine bay to look respectable?
After looking at the starion engine bay i just shake my head, theres shit everywhere
New engine will be run with aftermarket ecu and coil packs with direct fire so everything thats not needed will be removed.
Got some pics? Hints? Bit of inspiration? :beer

Im gonna do this shortly.

Im ripping everything out, except possibly the popup light system, Im not quite sure what is used to run the motor for a set period of time yet? Everything else is going bye bye.

Putting in new relays, new cable. I got so sick and tired of the electrics doing random things, that I decided to do this. Want to paint the engine bay first, but Id recommend it to anyone who has their engine out. Will save you time in the long run.

But yeah, it looks like the Starion engine mess was a factory installed 'feature'.

to get rid of the ignitor box?

find a dizzy from an L300 van, these have internal ignitors (doesn't have to be fuel injected, just has to be a dizzy with only two wires, one to the negative side of the coil and one to the positive), i got one from pick a part for $28. Apparently some of these were optical (the later model ones???) but i couldn't find out any more about it.

unplug ignitor box, install distributor as normal, wire to coil as normal, run a wire from the negative side of the coil to A8 on your computer (pm me if you need pinouts or do a search, i found them on here). this wire is to fire the injectors so don't forget it!!!

my tacho's only running intermittently but i think it might be from something else, i'll investigate when i've got some extra time.

and thats it, i did it because either my dizzy or my ignitor were stuffed but it got rid of that big ugly hunk of metal on the passenger side of the engine bay and if you got into it you could just cut off and strip out all the wiring going to that plug, i just left it there for now though, my car definitly isn't a show car :D

cheers
Matt
