JAPAN'S Vin on Firewall

Just wondering if someone would know how I would get details from Japan of an actual car released here but built there.
Is there a department in Head Office of MMC that can help me this information?? Some registry in their records??

Australian records are obliterated as the car is considered too old for MMAL's system.

The details I need from Japan's Vin/Chassis code FA183MGZ400139 are the following;
Build date (assumed 12/85)
Engine No.
Colour
Trim Codes
Options etc
Any help with links/ideas to getting this info would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will find that,
F... stands for Australian delivery
A18...Starion
3....1997cc Engine displacement (8 valve)
M... 2 door hatch
GZ...?? lettered digits
400139...numbered digits

What a hassle it is to find detailed information on the car. I reckon if it was a Ford, you would have no dramas finding codes & matching numbers. :?

About a million years ago I had a galant coupe that I wanted to get history on. I rang Mitsu Australia who had nothing, but gave me the postal address of Mitsu Japan. I wrote to them and got correspondence back, but unfortunately "their records didn't extend back that far". I could dig up the address for you if you want to have a crack?

The Engine No. pertaining to that Vin is what I really need!

If the Adelaide plant was still running, I reckon that info would have been still available somewhere ie., microfiched. But they're gone, and buckleys now!
