T3 or not to T3........
T3 or not to T3........
Hi all I've been offered a turbo. It's a Garrett T3 stage2 hybrid with the 360 degree bearing and a larger compresser housing, the turbo it self has had limited running time on it. My question is this an upgrade to my normal turbo or is it not worth my time to use it? Will it be a straight forward swap out or will some modification be required? Remember Im using the evo 3 turbo with the evo 3 head. I know some people might be wary about using a second hand turbo but I've dealt with this fella before and as they say here in the uk he's "sound as a pound"!!!
Thanks in advance,
T-man

I run a nissan VG30 roller (alloy comp wheel) on mine which uses
an adaptor plate on the standard manifold. I think you have a greater
range of turbo's when you go T3. The R33 GTst turbo's are almost identical
and they are cheap and plentiful. Sounds like shopping for vege's. :P
It's pretty straight forward swap accept you need a custom dump cause they use the turbo on the other side on the nissans. Two words mate

Disco Potato is a specific turbo though mate, not a VG or R33 turbo...
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

what's the diff between a T28 and a T3? I thought disco potatoes were GT28s?

I'm well aware that my turbo is not a disco potato. I stated my turbo in reference to using a T3 flanged turbo. T-man was asking if Garrett T3 stage2 hybrid he has been offered is an upgrade and worth his time. A disco potato doesn't only come in T28 flange!redzone wrote:Disco Potato is a specific turbo though mate, not a VG or R33 turbo...

see above link /\ /\ /\ /\ /\thrash wrote:what's the diff between a T28 and a T3? I thought disco potatoes were GT28s?
The T28 has slightly smaller cross sectional inlet area than a T3
T28 center of the bolts 73mm wide, 40mm long (38mm x 49.3mm)
T3 center of the bolts 86mm wide, 44.5 long (44.7mm x 57.2mm)
ahh so the t28 and t3 terminology has nothing to do with gt28 vs gt30 turbos..
