Hey all,

The new car has a type 1 bov that i intend to replace eventually but figure that I might as well keep in the meantime. Anyways, the previous owner wasnt too good with his cabling and so the tube connection after the trumpet on the BOV is just loose. Where abouts does it go to and does it have to be spliced like into a pressure sensor or anything? I seem to remeber the cable going sumwhere like the oil sump on someone elses car but they also had the cable spliced to go into the ECI or something.

Any help would be appreciated, is this tube even essential?

Do you mean the vaccum line? The only connection on a BOV that I can think of is the vaccum line that connects to the manifold after the throttle so that the BOV knows when you've closed the throttle as it will see vaccum rather than positive boost when the throttle is closed.

where is the vacuum line and how do i connect to it? cause atm it seems as tho the bov is only connected between the turbo and the throttle body, no vacuum line.

But when you close the throttle quickly, the vacuum generated in the intake manifold causes the valve to open, allowing the air still flowing out of the turbo to recirculate back to the intake (or in whoosh-type valves it vents it to atmosphere). This action prevents the sudden build-up of pressure in front of the compressor, which can cause compressor surge as well as abruptly slowing the turbo.

While the two largest plumbing connections join the intake and outlet sides of the turbo compressor, the connections aren't necessarily made right up near the turbo. One connection can be after the intercooler, for example. The smallest diameter plumbing connecting is for manifold vacuum - the trigger that opens the valve. (BOV closure is by spring pressure.)

i Tee pieced mine into te vaccum line from MAP sensor..just follow it to the manifold
