My cooler piping

Post by CussCuss »

ok since ive never seen anyone do it this way before i thought id show it to give anyone whos thinking about it a few ideas. Needs a few requiremtents tho 1) No air con (go weight saving :)) 2) no headlight washer (i think this may have clashed but it was coming out anyway) 3) cutting is required (radiator supports and some of the front panel with these particular endtanks) 4) turbo facing drivers side 5) relocation of windscreen spray bottle
but, with a mate that can weld, all up including price of cooler it will cost me less than $300 and flow bloody well hopefully. Tomorrow will be paint, and a bit of fabrication, then i can look at putting the car back together, yay LOL

is that the stock turbo? if yes, how do you "turn it to face that way".. if no, what car is it from.. JD?

also how do u run a POD filter with no mass air flow sensor and a stock ECU?

CussCuss,
looks pretty good to me :D More beans for sure. I remember when I first put the JD intercooler setup on my car it really made a big difference.

A big bar.

You can't.

Looking good Cusscuss. When do you think it will be moving under it's own steam?

thanks, ECU is a mircotech MT8 hence no MAF and $40 (im such a tight ass) pod. Turbo is off a JD hence the ability to fit it into the intakes of most other turbos. oh and i will be building a heat sheild for the POD, cold air > bling.

The car ran out of rego on 23rd march, so it HAS to be going by 23rd of june cause theres no way in hell i wann put it thru a blue slip.

oh and id just like to say a big UP YOURS to pirtek who tried to inform me that you cant buy 2.5" rubber hose and that i should buy silicone @ $8/inch. Well you can, its rated to 5 bar, and cost me $40 for 3ft of it so NER.

Re the rubber hose: I think you will find that is not resistant to oil or fuel. After some time it may become really soft. No hose supplier local to me has been able to find oil proof rubber hose that dia.

Nice work.

MrBishi,
bloody hell are we building a space shuttle or something? I have had cut up Falcon radiator hoses as my intercooler piping for about 10 years and they still look brand new.
I went down to Repco and looked through all the big diameter radiator hoses until I got what I wanted including moulded bends! Not sure you would 2.5" but I got what I needed for my JD setup.

Rubber Bends

Post by jakobsladderz »

If anybody is after rubber bends in decent intercooler-sized diameters, try truck parts stores. Truck radiator bends are awesome for the job. As mentioned before, they aren't supposed to be oil and fuel proof, but there shouldn't be very much oil or fuel running through the hose anyway. Temperatures no probs, they'll handle 150°C easy enough. I have had some in the magna for a while without incident.

Put your heat shield back!!!!!!!!!!

I know someone who did some cooler/pod filter mods and left off the heat shield, went for a burn one night and ended up in a tree because the brake reservior melted... bye bye starion.

Was a nice car too

Steve.

Another option to eliminate that u-bend is to turn the ECI throttle body.

I'm not sure if any of you guys have done it (I'm sure someone will have) but I have it done to my lancer using a spacer/bolt relocater between the manifold and the ECI unit which turns the ECI unit about 120 degrees anti clockwise.

It works a treat and eliminates a few bends.

Why don't you go multipoint when you have a Aftermarket ECU?
Or are those manifolds hard to find (&expensive) in Australia?

I got one of those manifolds for free when i went to get a cylinderhead at the local junkyard(was still attached)
