Standard JA Pinion Gear Length

Post by JJH »

Can anyone confirm the length of the pinion gear in a standard JA diff?
Is it 190mm (approx. 7.5")?
Thanks

The pinion shaft from end to end is 190mm, but that includes the part of the bolt that protrudes out the end of the gear for the torque tube. It's about 5mm less if you don't include the bolt.

Do you require one Jeff?
I may have one (measured off a broken one for ya) :)

That's good news Frank.
I pulled a 4.625 gearset out of an L300 at Pick-a-Part in Kilsyth, it has a 7.25" crown wheel & the 7.5" pinion; my intention is to put them into my current (3.5) LSD.

Pick a part in kilsyth was where the group c hdt gemini was found, they didn't know what it was lol, thought it was just an old white gemini with flares! Guy I know bought it & sold it for a 700% profit..

How long ago was that?

I should slap the yard manager over the head, he collects shitbox Escorts and clearly wouldn't know a unique Holden if it shunted him up the bum.

It was only about 3 years ago, Rick Ludgate (mr gemini) bought it coz it had flares etc, he didn't even know what it was until Paul Sabin identified it as he used to crew on it when John White owned it after hdt.. It is currently under restoration in melbourne.

it as plain white and still had the full group C bodykit on it, the running gear was what came in my group A gem off the showroom floor, it had some average 13 inch wheels on it. I've seen pics of how it looked when found, it looked pretty clean for what it was, the alloy cage was long gone too..
