Checked the dizzy, all good. Pulled the spark plugs which had been done up by an Olympic wrestler. Then compression testing showed cylinders 2 & 3 to be less than half of the other two. Bugger it, this car has blown a head gasket too! I haven't finished my other car from when it blew the HG !
What doesn't make sense was that I wasn't up it at the time, I was cruising.
The other one popped when it was doing 6000 revs.
As an aside, when I checked out the spark plugs, they are NGK Iridium BKR7EVX plugs instead of the NGK B7ES. I didn't measure them but the gap was far wider then 0.7 ~ 0.8mm.
Are these a good equivalent plug (standard engine, standard everything) and what should the gap be on them?
Also, who's got an old instrument cluster with a good working oil gauge?
I'm going to replace mine at the same time as it's been bung for months...
Motoring along nicely and then...

u sure the oil guage isnt a faulty sender? usually is..
head gaskets usually fail when u arent up it, though the damage is usually caused by pinging under load..

Nah the gauge is shot...it sits right up the top even with the cluster out of the car...I attempted to fix it and the moment it had power to it, it went to the top and stayed there again.
