Car has 295k on the clock and getting noisy in the rear driveline area.
Standard JA diff.
I had a look at the driveshafts and both the rear rubber boots on the wheel side are damaged.
Is it necessary to change inner and outer boots?
There seems to be more oil coming from the rear passenger side diff oil seal to the driveshaft.
There is also oil on the bottom of the torque tube.
Looking at the JD workshop manual pdf's rear axle files, there are a number of bearings and oil seals to change.
Is it advisable to change all these bearings including the one on the torque tube?
Can the diff oil seals be changed without removing the diff?
When doing the rear wheel bearings do you change both inner and outer bearings? Do I need to get a shop to press these in?
I would like to get the parts together before I start - does anyone know of the part numbers? And a rough price guide for the bits?
Also can someone recommend a good cost effective driveshaft / diff place in Melbourne or Geelong?
Rear axle repair or rebuild.
Reading thru some of the earlier posts someone mentioned using a speedie sleeve.
Where does that go / and is that trial and error to get the right size / or a part number or dimension.
Somewhere in the posts there also was a link to a company website that supplied drive shaft boots that slip over the driveshaft without dismantling everything - using some silicone grease and a long tapered cone.
Does anyone know if these boots are still available and if they are any good.
I would like to do most of the work myself but I will need to get bearings pressed in a shop.
