Help needed - JD not happy - will not idle

Can I clean the pick up without taking out the tank??

I have 50 litres of PULP that I would have to drain, so I have been procrastinating......... also been too busy to look at it.

I have the manual so I should read that I suppose :D

If you know if it is easy to pull out the pick up and clean let me know

Yes you can .There is a removable panel on the left side of the spare tyre well :)

Can you buy a replacement filter or do you just clean the one in the tank?

From the syptoms you describe, i doubt it's fuel related. "refuses to idle but will idle roughly when giving it some herbs..."
Sounds like Vacuum or electrical to me. Certainly a strange one - hope you get it sorted out. Could be ECU failure, too! But definitely check the hoses on the firewall, i vaguely recollect helping someone with a similar prob on their JD once , a long long time ago, and it turned out to be vac related. Good luck!

I have checked the in tank filter and it was clean as a whistle........ fuel pump makes the right noises but I am suspicious it is that.
I have checked the vac hoses and as fas as I can see and Mr Bender can see they all look OK
Maybe the ECU?? anyone got a spare JD one lying around? I think I discounted this with some discussions with Glenn.

It would be nice to find it.

OK....... an update

Grabbed a spare fuel pump from Redzone when I was over at Mooloolaba and changed it out today - what a bastard of a job!!!! and as is often the case the JD has different plugs on the wiring so had to modify that.
So three hours later and I start it up...........

Still the same !!!!!!! will not idle
This car has the ability to run beautifully - but not right now!!

Current conclusion is - I think I poisoned the car - I think it was left too long and the fuel is stuffed. The 50 litres of PULP has been contaminated by the crap that was in the tank and I think I have to try the next option and drain the tank.

Before I do I am going to grab a jerry can and run a hose direct to the pump intake and try 5 litres of fresh PULP from a remote tank.
Has anyone done this before?
I pulled off the fuel supply at the intake manifold amd turned the car over and shitloads of fuel was pumping - so no prob with the fuel pump - should have done that with the existing one first :D

Noddy I have my original JB ecu that was checked and tested and ran my Staz when it was running 15psi & making 200+ hp atw Happy to post it to you provided it comes back if it doesn't solve your problems. Will check with Redzone as to what they are worth.

If I recall correctly, you had an odd setup with the injectors with a black and a grey top in there...
I remember playing around with my injectors on the JD/JB cars I had. I could not get them to run with interchanged injectors....
I reckon something has been done to get the odd setup firing. Also, check the connections thoroughly!

It really may be a case for the auto electrician or fuel injection specialist to diagnose what's going on? Not worth the headaches going alone!

At least the fuel is getting in there!!

The injectors are now new ones from US and have run really well in the car.
I did try the old injectors back in to see if they may be the cause but it ran the same with either set pretty much - ie not really at all

I am convincing myself its the dodgy fuel which was suggested early in the peace.
I have this simple test - will try that and report
