Weird problems fixed with new turbo

Post by bluestarion »

Hi Guys,
Thanks to MitsuMadness I have replaced the completely shagged turbo on my car.
For a while the car has had boosting problems and pressurisation of the sump.
Initially I thought I had some blow by problems however when I removed the turbo I found about 400mL of oil in the water to air intercooler.
This was my AHAH moment.
What was causing the problems was a blown seal on the compresser side of the turbo.
Boost pressure was leaking past the seal into the low pressure side of the oil system and charging the sump.
New turbo is working a treat however I need to get used to the different noise the turbo makes when spooling up........
:)

Just curious which turbo did you replace your old with?? Did you end up getting a TD05 from Mitsu that allows you to have factory I/C piping?

Is there a quicker spool at the start over the old and does it keep spooling relatively well after 4500rpm??
