Is the Exhaust manifold heatshield necessary?

Post by rodney007 »

I am going to change my exhaust manifold gasket next weekend and am sick of the heat shield.

Is it needed to space-out the manifold or can I simply heat wrap it and run no shield?

Also one missing bolt on the far right.... would that cause a leak if all others are tight?

chur..

Replace the stud.

Use a gasket dressing on both sides.

And, if you are removing the heat shield, put a turbo bag on it. Or you may boil the brake n clutch fluid.

The heat shield doesn't attach between the head and manifold. And yes, if you remove it replace it with something else to stop fluids cooking.

I have already taken the heat shield off around the down pipe and have heat wrapped it.

There is a heat shield that sits behind or infront of the manifod gasket. looks to protect the plug wires..

you can see it here..

the one you're asking about is part of the gasket, and yes, keep as many heat shields as you can, and put the brake/clutch one back on!!!

you'll be wishing you did when you're going down a mountain and the brake pedal goes to the floor!

Oh that heat shield.

Get your plug spanner and belt/clearance each plug hole opening so you can actually get the spanner into the plugs. That's the only difficulty I have ever had with that shield.
