Knock Sensor

Post by bjwatso »

Hi again,

Anyone know where I can get a Starion knock sensor/ignitor? New or good second hand.

It's for a 1988 4g63 and I'm in England.

Any help would be great.

Cheers, Ben

I'm almost sure you can also use the knock sensor from a 89-93 galant or Colt and probably other mitsu's from the same years.
I know that the sensor on the DOHC motors looks identical, not sure on the connector.. But since you have a 88 i think it was the same.
Just go to a local breakers with old sensor in hand and find one that looks identical (but still has the black stuff in it)

it should look like this:

83 2000EX runner.
88 2.0 Black Widebody DOHC evo 6 turbo at 1.7 bar
88 2.6 White Widebody. spun a bearing.
06 2.0 Lancer Wagon. daily driver.

is there a knock sensor mounted on a Starion? I can't find one on either of my engines in the Eterna or Galant, perhaps its before they used knock sensors

All 3 Starions I own have one. Oldest being a 83 model.

And they all look the same. (well except for the one I now have a 7Bolt DOHC in)

If i remember correctly even the 82 EX that I took apart had one.

But it could be a market that difference.
For example. a US spec Eclipse N/A 4g63 eclipse from 89-93 didn't have a knock sensor. But the EURO spec did have one. (also higher compression)

I have what looks to be a map sensor mounted on my firewall, then another box mounted next to the coil but I cannot see an actual knock sensor mounted to the block anywhere on mine, I am asking where does the knock sensor mount on the block on a Starion?
