Handbrake headache

Ok so I have good front and rear brakes (passed M.O.T)

but when handbrake is up as had as I can physically pull it, I can still push the car along. As much as I would like to put this down to big biceps.....

I have replaced rear pads, freed up calliper slide pins, and freed up calliper cylinders. Any other ideas? neither cable is broke as they are moving at the calliper end

Ok this might be of no use to you but this is what we do with Pajeros and cars with similar handbrake setups and no separate handbrake adjustment, to pass WOF here handbrakes must also be balanced within 20%.

Takes two people, back off adjustment on the handbrake cables, use a lever or strong screwdriver and hold back the handbrake lever on the cailper and have another person pump the brake pedal repeatedly, repeat both sides then readjust handbrake cable.

When holding the handbrake levers are you engaging or disengaging? Dont understand how it would work but will try!

Hold the levers back (off) Actually you should disconnect them.

It gets them self adjusting properly, when you change pads you do this before connecting up the handbrake and adjusting its travel.

Are they measured on brake rollers for MOT? must be pretty slack if you can pass and push your car around with the handbrake on LOL

your handbrake cables are binding up and wont allow the handbrake lever (one on the caliper)back to its fully off position. This needs to happen for the handbrake adjust mechanism to be able to auto adjust. You could try and free up the cable by getting some lubricant in it and working the cable back and forth.
But most likely its the plastic sheath over the cable thats causing the issue and the only way to fix that is by buying new cables.
