Air Conditioner

Post by Camotec »

Hey,

Has anyone had to get their air con regassed? any ideas how much?

I just got this car about 4 weeks ago now and i have a spare motor which i am doing up... i have taken the aircon off that motor and bolted it to my car and attached all necessary connections and wiring, all i need it a belt and some gas.

I shouldn't have any troubles should I?

How long is a piece of string

Depends why the air con isn't working. There's about $60 worth of gas in your average air con unit plus whatever markup the reseller slaps on it.

I had my Starion air con redone about 2 years ago and took about 3 attempts to get it right after replacing seals, hoses, condensors and cleaning up drain off pipes. About $700+ later, I now have working air con... minus a working radiator fan!

Hope this helps

Aircon

Post by Darkelf »

Ron, did mine when the Elf was being rebuilt. Cost about $300 as I recall. That included a new legal unit and it being gassed but that might have been a special price as I was having other stuff done.

if you get the clip on thingies for the aircon valves (I think blackwoods sell them) and a length of hose and some hose clamps you should be able to find a sea container around the back of most seafood wholesalers that has a big yellow dot on the back with a valve in it. this is marked, of course, "outlet" I myself have not done this but a friend had an old landsnuzzer with a dodge o-ring somewhere. instead of finding and fixing the leak he just regased to every 2 weeks or so. the procedure is fairly simple, hook "outlet" to the inlet of u'r compressor, stick a screwdriver (not u'r finger) in the valve after the accumulator (I think) and when it gets to painful to hold on to the screwdriver u know its full. :D (car must be running with aircon on, need to "hotwire" the clutch if the is no pressure at all in the system) cant remember if the container has to be on, find one with a connected 3 phase cable just to be sure  (might work on wrecks / frontcuts??) taking bolt cutters will ensure a bountiful "fixed my aircon by looting stuff" celebration bbq.
I figured out the meaning of life, and since then every day just gets worse.

Warranty void if stupid.

It is a cold night, the wind blows softly and the stars dance behind the clouds. The moon is but a sliver like someone has cut through the night sky with a scalpel, all is quite in the town of Bathurst.... the breeze strengthens now rustling leaves are being tossed about, swirling. Light comes from a distant street, the light turns into a pair of eyes shining brightly, at first small getting larger like a steam train in a tunnel. A soft vibration stirs softly and gently gets stronger as the headlights grow like the like the whites of a scared girls eyes. The vibration has turned into a fluxtuating rumble, tires scrubbing and screaming. the lights stop moving, as if a predator has found its prey, they start slowing moving, then in an instant they are gone, vanished without trace, the rumble has also stopped. What seemed so loud at the time now seems so quiet against the deafening silence that now follows. Now, A soft patter in the distance which quickly turns into large footsteps, running, fast then silence.... all is silent again, no footsteps, no rumbles or vibrations. Quiet.... So Quiet.... "HEY", "What the F#$K", "It's me Camo, I brought you those prawns you wanted", "Oh ok thanks Ben, cya around" "Yeah no worries, cya Chef"

THE END

Ok the time is 12:05AM, I haven't had a good night sleep in 3 days because of flu and migrains. So I thought what the hell. And no i didn't find that stuff scum was smokin. Good night  :D
