I definitely want fully adjustables. Koni, Bilstein or something comparable.
I need to be able to adjust the dampening because the lowered springs that are going into the car are pretty bloody hard. Some adjustment has to be made if I want to keep my back from being jarred all of the time :)

Its actually your spring rates which determine your ride comfort rather than the shocks. Shocks are there to take the energy out of the spring after the have compressed and when they expand.

Exactly, which is why I need fully adjustables...

Having adjustable shocks wont reducing the jarring ride you will experience with hard springs. Shocks there to take out the energy the springs make, otherwise the car will bounce around until the energy in the springs run out or until you hit another bump. If you want more comfort you need to reduce your spring rates, adjustable shocks are mainly there to allow you to match the shocks to the spring and the road/track you drive on.

How low are you going Nacho? Do you need/want the springs to be captive?

I have the captive springs already.
They're 2.5 inches lower in the front, and 2 inches lower in the back

Here are the springs in my old JA.
The car ran 15's with 50 series tyres.
Low, but still manageable, and it looks so much better!

The commodore shocks will likely make the springs non-captive. They have a bit longer travel than Starion.

Have you looked at how much travel you have before bump stops? I suspect that at that low hieght you will have sweet FA. Maybe consider shortening the shock tube to fit MR2 (or 300ZX ala www.18u). It's not too much work if you have a welder.
What spring weights are they? I'm surprised that they are captive given lowness and hardness. Progressive?

Dunno about spring weight.
Yes they are progressive.
I'm looking at the 300ZX or MR2 option, it's just a question of which one...

if its any help here I run staz front end struts in my sigma and use camiera Koni inserts
the strut tubes had to be shortened and I also run coil overs
I've found them to be a win win all round the shorter insert kept the spring captive - the shortened strut body gave me some more travel without bottoming out and they are an off the shelf Koni part

Good call. It looks like there is a lot of good info out there, it jest needs to collated and sorted. Part number and prices would help too.

Anyone???

Front inserts

Post by Staz183A »

Hey,

Wen I was replacing my 5 stud stazz front inserts some time back I found that the normal koni JA replacement insert was a bit longer. Accidentally I came across a sigma insert and suprisingly it was a perfect fit.

Cheers
