i had this problem but it was the oil and water temp, oil guage problem was the sender unit diaphram was shagged a new sender fixed that and the temp one was a loose/dirty connector onto the sender unit, replaced it and it worked fine as for your fuel guage i'd check the connectors and make sure their not dirty or corroded.

Yeah, I have a spare, but the fact that all of them doing it points to a wiring problem, rather than all the senders being shagged.

I know that you said that you tried another instrument cluster, but what adrian said about a voltage regulator will definately cause the problems you have. That is if Starions have a voltage regulator in the dash? :?

but if you earth out the sender wires and the guages work ie go full sweep then the wiring is usually ok

The saga continues.....

Grabbed spare temp sender, put into a cup of boiling water, earthed sender and connected the wire from engine temperature sender. Turned car ignition on and temp gauge reads about a quarter.

I pulled out the existing sender in engine and did the same test, same result, gauge reads about a quarter.

Then I started the engine....gauge did not register, it's as dead as flares.

Ran the car (only for a few minutes as I was in the garage) and lights, hazards, indicators, heater fan, cigarette lighter, radio, interior lights, tacho, boost gauge, wipers, rear wiper  and demister relay kicks in and works too.

I have run an extra earth from the inlet manifold to the battery clamp and another from the body to the battery clamp.

This is doing my head in......
