Jerking on Decceleration

Post by FST4RD »

Alot of the time when i'm slowing down say in second or third using the engine to brake rather then the brakes, the car will at the higher RPMs deccelerate smoothly then when it starts to get lower start jerking back and forth and you have to put your foot on the clutch to stop it from doing so.... and then if your traveling along at say 80ish in 5th for example holding a constant RPM it will start jerking and you have to change to 4th to get it up in the rev range to stop it doing this.

Bearing in mind I have a DASH motor thats was rebuilt about 10k's ago, someone said it could be that little cylinder type thing by the intake manifold (showed me on his 8v motor) but mine doesn't seem to have one (well in the same place anyway)......

Anyone got any ideas?

It sounds spark related.

Perhaps ignition leads shorting out/breaking down.
Bad spark plug.
Weak coil.

Sounds like your spark or leads. I had same issues, replaced spark plugs, then noticed on one of my leads, it was cracked, so I replaced it and now she runs BEAUTIFUL :beer
