Vaccum leak and earthing?

Post by Rainey »

Okay so I'm pretty new to all this but I've finally pulled my Staz off the road to track down some of the niggling problems I've been having with her. Apart from changing plugs, leads, oil, coolant etc. I haven't really touched her mechanically.

First question is: I've found a small tear in the air hose (the big one that comes from the air box to the turbo). Would this be considered a vaccum leak? Should I repair this hose or replace it?

Image

Second question is: I've also found what looks like an earth wire which is not connected to anything, it is located beside the right side of the engine and is hanging near what looks like a mounting bracket coming from the block? This mounting bracket has a thread about the same size as the ring on the end of the wire.... Does it actually belong here?

Yes. Leak is after airflow meter and will affect mixture. Plus whatever crap gets sucked in.

And I think, Yes.

Thanks Alspos! I thought so. Would make sense as to why the car only cuts out on idle sometimes (hole expanding/closing).

well I don't know how much they are worth, but it is in perfect condition, came off my widebody. I put a pod filter on, with aftermarket ecu. There are no cracks etc. Just a alittle dusty :P

Umm does anyone know how much they are worth? I am not too fussed on price, but I don't wanna sell it for $10 when its worth $100. (just for example)

Didnt someone say that widey ones are different to Aussie ones somewhere?

Maybe compare it to your JA one Woody to see if its the same.
-JA Starion with JD bits , Forged engine, Heaps of mods (parked up)
-BFII XR6 Turbo Ute , Here comes 400hp for 2k :p
-77 Mazda 323 drag car. 13bt rotary project.

Yes i have too many toys.

I understand that Woody, let me know if you can find how much they are worth. Also as Brendan said, can you check to make sure it will fit the JA/JB if it is from your Widey? :beer

For the time being you could duct tape it and see how it goes. Should hold for a while, it doesn't get hot or anything.

yeah you can do what alpos said. Duck tape wouldn't last ages, but it will work as a test. The hose from memory has an extra hole in it, which you can easily plug up. My JA one is the same though I think, because I plugged a hole in that too. Plugged it with a spark plug rofl

a good one is worth up to $100 if perfect. there is also another way to repair them that has been covered here before so no drama for the other stockers.. and no a 2.6 widey intake pipe will not work on a 2lt car...
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.
