Help identifying 4G64 block

Help identifying 4G64 block

I have purchased what I was led to believe is a 4G64 6 bolt 8 valve wideblock. Unfortunately the crank wasn't in it when I went to pick it up, so I can't verify that. I need to know if it is a wideblock or not.

Here is a photo with the measurements between the two bottom bolts.
As you can see, its 340mm between the bottom bolts. Is this a wideblock or a narrow block? Also how can I tell if its a 6 bolt or 7 bolt crank that's required.

I was under the impression that wideblocks are 333mm across middle holes, 127mm top holes (centre to centre). Is this correct?

post a pic of the head face and the engine from a drivers side 3/4 view if u know what i mean.

did u get the main caps?

That block looks like a NIMBUS/TRITON 2.4L block... which won't work for your application... Sorry Woody :beer

was pretty awesome. I had to fly out about half a week earlier to go work at Apple to make a special demo for one of their talks. Our App also won the best iPhone game for the year. Jetpack Joyride.

ok back on track.

I had time to grab some photos today. I took a photo of the head face with a 4G63 DOHC head gasket sitting on there and it all seems to be lining up nice and well except for maybe one hole at the very front of the gasket you can see on the right of the picture next to the cylinder. I have also taken a 3/4 shot for you dave. let me know what you guys think. To me it seems like I got the right block.

I believe the mains journal width is different between 6 and 7 bolt cranks, so you should be able to measure the width where the bearings sit in place. Another clue is if it has separate mains bearing caps then it's likely to be a 6 bolt but if it's a crank cradle or some of the bearing caps are bridged then it could be a 7 bolt (and yes I'm aware that DOHC 6 bolt have bridged main caps).

Oh and if it definitely was originally 8 valve then without a doubt it's 6-bolt as they never made 7-bolt 8V 2.0 or 2.4 engines, the SOHC engines shifted to 16V when they went 7-bolt.

They did in the wide block.
92-94 SH Express 4WD vans were 7 bolt 8v ;)

vhr32 (welcome to Austarion) is correct. Has girdle etc even a bit earlier than 92.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
