Balance shafts........

Post by T-man »

Hi all I'm in the middle of my very very slow build of DOHC my starion using a evo 3. My question today is, is it ok just to remove the balance shaft, the one thats to the left hand side when facing the engine. Is it just a simple case to blank off the hole or is there more to it? I've seen kits on the likes of eBay and they have a blanking plug and some things that look like complete shells type things.

Thanks in advance,
T-man

if u remove one you have to remove both, and i cant remember which one has this off the top of my head but one of the balance shaft bearings is fed oil from the main gallery and will need it's oil supply plugged, i have a feeling it's the inner upper one on a starion block.

Hi redzone, your up early! On this side of the planet were all heading to sleepy land! I was going to remove the upper balance shaft as I thought it was simply just remove and throw away. But now I think I will just keep both balance shafts in place. Unless you guys think I should remove both shafts? If so has anyone got a spare balance shafts removal kit?

Cheers,
T-man
