Very interesting read (Comparisons between 2.0 and 2.4 DOHC)

Post by WidebodyWoody »

This has overlayed dyno results of a 2.0 and 2.4 in both the torque and HP ranges, same gear. It shows spool times, and also has overlays of time not just torque so it shows duration of spool up as well. Very useful.

Check it out.

There is no replacement for displacement! And a psychotic snail helps even more!
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
How?

Well I would argue that the replacement for 0.2 litres of displacement is the extra cam and the bigger and better flowing ports. :beer

A supercharger is a perfect replacement for displacement. Essentially that's exactly what it does.

It was a throw away comment guys.

Super and turbo chargers just jam more air into the pump (engine).

Less boost and less strain on the engine for the same result makes sense to me.

Well... I see what you mean, but a SS takes a lot of power from the crank too... compared to a turbo that "onley" makes a bit of backpressure for the piston's exh.stroke.

Throw away or not... It's true!
A 2litre, 150hp N/A-motor will make ~300hp on 1bar of boost.
A 2,3 litre 200hp N/A-motor would pass 300hp before 0,7bar. With a nicer torque-curve!

And a unopened BMW M60B40 V8 singelturbo and E85, makes 640WHP/818WNm@1,1bar in a Volvo 242 -75... sleeper? Hilarious?

But I guess that's OT and not very interesting... :D

Why'd you hide it?
Yes it's off topic but it is interesting...

if i ever get another project, one of the considerations will be an E36 318is to put a supercharged M62 3.5L v8 into
