Twincam Exhaust Manifolds
Twincam Exhaust Manifolds
Figured Id start a tread as there isn't one just for Exhaust manifolds.
Has anyone got pics of a good setup that has been made for the 4G starion??
Redzone you must have some pics of some that work well???

I will probably go for one of these when i have the cash :)

Got any pics?
I could have put the factory heat sheild back on with my setup. I had one ready to go on but it didnt look right. I did have to trim it a little to clear the cold end of the external wastegate tho.

Thanks Redzone. Any tips on making a good manifold?

Good work 4gpwr
Is it one you made?
What is best to make them out of? Steam pipe or high grade Stainless? When I say high grade stainless I mean 3mm thick wall. The guy I spoke to at NZEFI said he uses 3mm thick schedule H stainless????? He's made 10 over the last two odd years and hasn't had any problems with them.
And should I use stainless flange plates?

They call me an advanced backyarder , I never made a stainless mainfold but the price of the bends are three times more , and stainless is alot harder to cut grind ect . And also the flanges if they were made out of stainless , they have to be milled straight , I cant find a machinest that have that kind of a jig to hold a manifold . I was quoted once $2500 for a stainless manifold for 4g with those type of bends . And if you weld stainless to mild steel it wont crack staight away , but it will be the weakest point. I charged $700 for that manifold with a lifetime warrenty .
And on the dyno the boost responce was unbelivable , with a 3.5 inch dump and better intercooler pipework and that manifold it picked up 25 kws at the wheels . If intested I got a rwd 4g manifold 95% finished for my car I think I am going to do the wastegate like yours .

4Gs Rule
I've seen that on many manifold the flanges are still steel or magnetic stainless.
Stainless expands ALOT when it heats up I would not be surprised it it would snap off the bolts it you make a flange of the wrong kind of stainless.

main thing is to get the collector right... and take off the ext gate from somewhere that will get pretty even flow from all 4 pipes...JAS wrote:Thanks Redzone. Any tips on making a good manifold?

$700AUD is $914NZD
And when you add the price of shipping it to me, there wouldn't be much difference to getting one made here.
Interesting about the stainless expanding though.
4gpwr did you buy the collector like that or did you make it?
And what diameter pipe did you guys use?
And is TIG welding necessary or will MIG work just as well?
