GATTON SPRINTS 2012
What I hoped would never happen finally happened,I headbutted a concrete barrier and went from a rooster to feather duster in one horrible moment .
Dave will understand as he knows the track but will try to describe it for those who haven't seen it.
The start is about 30 metres down hill into turn 1 which is a 90 under the bridge that is downhill into it and uphill out of it & is which is taken in 2nd followed by hard acceleration uphill into 3rd with a slight lift off into T2 which is a biig sweeping left hander with a blind apex on the crest and downhill after it and the road is quite heavily cambered heading towards a chicane which is placed to slow drivers for T3. Unfortunatly it is in the middle of the burnout comp area and the whole road surface is shiny black and slippery even when dry.
On my 3rd run the start was dry along with T2&T3 so when I was flat in 3rd heading for the chicane I thought that the road looked shinier than previously and realised that it had rained down there and got on the brakes and thought that I maybe should straight line the chicane and take out the cones and wear the time penalty but foolishly thought that I could make it through but as a spectator told me later I locked a wheel on a white line and lost the rear and hit the barrier full frontal spun 180 deg and ended up almost kissing the wall with the rear.
Fortunately or should I say unfortunately this is on my Go Pro along with my 1st timed run so will have to get no2 son to post it .
Must thank Aaron for all his help to get it on the trailer.
THE ic,radiator and support panel seem ok and there seems to be a bend in the LH subframe, passenger door works fine but drivers door should be ok but catches on the guard, bonnet seems ok but will need bumper ,guard lights etc so Hopefully can find parts needed asap.
I am ok just wallet damaged and generally pissed off with myself for making the wrong split decision :( :x but that's motor racing.
1320 Aaron may be able to give you a better version of how it looked from a spectators point of view.
PS I'm up this early as havn't slept too well overnight.
PPS maybe I should take up drag racing as i'm told there are
1 no chicanes
2 no racing when track is wet
3 only one very slow left hand corner

Shit! I'm glad you're ok mate, sorry to hear about the car damage but by the sound of it it's largely superficial..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

We sometimes forget the important things because the unimportant things "could have gone better".
You're still here to tell us the tale, so thank God for that :)

Only a handful for now.
I'll post the rest up when I get back to sydney.

Shame about that! As mentioned by everyone, good to see that you didn't get hurt.
I do have a spare JB front bar with lights. A few marks and scratches but in silver. A pair of side markers as well! Hopefully will be all repaired for Superlap etc.

Have u got a good panel beater rad? There is a guy up here who repaired the orange car for me back when it was silver, it had similar levels of damage. He fixed a nose cone worse than that!
I have some good guards here too. Also, if that bar cover is not torn, just remove it from the reo & put it in the sun, it will look like new within 3 days..
That reo is probably saveable too..
Give me a call mate I can probably help u out with some guards etc, I have a new fibreglasser lined up too btw

Rad, welcome to the "oops" club. So glad to hear you're OK, & the Staz lives on with only bruises. Better luck at "superlap".

Hope to get a quote or 2 to fix it with me finding parts in the next week or so
Dave do you recall the beaters price to fix yours so I have a ball park idea of costs??
PM OR TXT me if you want to keep it private along with the price for the parts you think I need .

That's a bugger Rad, Glad your ok! Cars can be fixed a lot easier then people!
Dont throw the guards out! The good bottoms can be welded onto the bottom of a straight rusty guard!!! They mostly only rust at the bottom.
If the rails are bent to much, I have a "parts" shell here that could donate a top or bottom rail! :D
The JB/D lights are easy to find in the states! As Dave says the bar could be saved!
A good panel beater really can do wonders!
Cheers Jason

Not even a twinge of pain or stiffness so my body is ok but others may think otherwise lol.
Will trailer it over to my beater for an initial look and ball park cost to fix.
