Do the thermo fans come on properly. Id assume before a engine goes to the level of head gasket failure other componants have to be fail before finishing of the gasket, so having said that, did the thermo fans activate, did your previous thermostate open.??

I just replaced my clutch with a heavy duty item. With full level gearbox oil, to get it into gear i have to put it in gear with car engine off. Than take off than it will gently allow to change gears. Every frigen morning i have to start the car in gear than force my stick in gear to get it going, ...

I reckon what it needs is a 2.6 Astron motor with t88 turbo, methanol injection, should be good to do 9 seconds.
