Starion Service Manual
The Pitstop bookshop are now stocking a service manual for the Starion.
See the link below for details.
I have no idea how good or bad these manuals are.

The gear on the starter motor shaft is attached with a one way clutch. When first starting the engine the starter motor shaft turns and the clutch drives the starter motor gear. When the engine fires and is running, it is then trying to drive the stater motor faster than it is designed to run. The c...

Most modern cars (including the Starion) use a pre-engaged starter. When the ignition switch is turned to Start, this provides an electric current to the Starter Solenoid, the Soleniod moves the Starter motor drive gear into mesh with the Flywheel ring gear. Once these gears are physically in positi...

Warning Light
Can someone please tell me what the top right dash warning light is for in a JA.
It is an Amber light, which displays a squareish figure.
It's only flashing on for a short time, so I haven't been able to make out what it is meant to be!
Many thax, Alan.

Rally Starions
There were quite a few of these around at one stage. Two ran in the 1988 Rally Australia. One driven by Ross Dunkerton & Steve McKimmie finished fifth, another driven by David Officer & Kate Officer finished seventh. Also a UK magazine called Retro Cars (Jan 05) had a reature on Pentti Airik...

Brake Booster
Hi the brakes on the JA have gone really heavy. The pedal feels solid with very little movement. I've checked and have vacuum at the booster so according to the manual it would appear that the booster is dead. Before I replace it anybody else had this problem and fixed it any other way? Thanks, Alan.

Dual Batteries
If the inverter wont start without the engine running even thoght the batteries are fully charged it sounds more like the input voltage that the inverter needs to start rather than the capacity of the battery. A good battery should give a reading of something a little over 12Volts. With the engine r...
