if your temp gauge isn't working as well then its your sensor thats shot.

as for smelling flooded, if a starion is cold doesn't it over-fuel until its up to running temp?

put the intercooler pipe inside a bigger pipe ala heat shield..
as for drag racing packing your pipes and cooler in ice before the run is best as the run is too short to affect any good cooling while on the track.

well the old girl has packed it in. a hose connecton had rusted through and just fell off meaning it lost all water and the temp guage did the "really hot - i better keep an eye on this - back to normal temp - ok that was wierd" bit. needless to say once i got home i had the choice to make...
