JD Starion Registry

Post by JDSTAZ45 »

As a former owner of a JD Starion, I'm always curious on the number of JD's in existence on the road and in our possession.
I'm currently in a position to acquire one but not sure if I'll end up owning it!
There are some issues with the release of this particular JD I'm buying where there are TWO Aussie Vin numbers on the drivers side strut
where one is crossed out and the other shown in rego papers.
Image

The real problem is... the one that is crossed out IS the same as the Compliance plate (which is located at the rear inside hatch and not in it's
usual position on top of firewall).
Image

The last 4 questionable digits of the Aussie Vin numbers are #0041 and #0043

I am relieved to say that MMAL have come to the rescue and advised me that #0043 was released into the Australian car market
with the correct engine number on the block! Somewhere along the lines, Mitsu Head Office OR Dealer stuffed up!

So my quest is to table out all 50 or so JD's released in Oz with number, colour, trim and whether or not D60 (LSD) optioned. Plus any brief description.
AND to find out, Does #0041 actually exist out there! The ???? digits should be different to the digits on #0043 if it's out there.

Please add to registry by posting any details of the unknown JD's. I will try and obtain as much info as I can from the forum and personal knowledge.

Thanks Dave for chasing up those details.
The Perth JD wreck I believe is the car acquired by Juice 2, No#0047! Got that info from the registry.

So far, we can account for 30-odd percent of JD's! It'll be interesting if we can get over 50%. And I'll freak if the No#0041 shows up!
I've got to say, when I bought my JD #0045 back in 1999, I was reliably informed that 49 JD units were sold.
Could this STAMPING stuff up be the reason why there are Vin's #0050 and #0051??
And I have been told there was a special import of an automatic of this model?? Who knows?

Craig's car is number 39 he thinks. It's silver with maroon interior, it's getting a full resto at the moment. He's pretty sure it is a D60.

ps mine is a 12/85 build, 3/87 compliance! Yes originally D60 but some ass bandit lifted the diff inbetween when we saw it in march 2012 and when we got it in early 2013.

I'm assuming that you have gone through my Aus Starion Registry thread, Mal?

From that VIN pic I would have suggested that it was an error from the factory when they hand stamped the VIN as both numbers are the same stamping characters.

Well done on persevering with it, Mal. You are an absolute legendary Starion enthusiast! :beer :pimp

Thanks for those details Charlie.
I have a feeling the #0038 car might be the car that headed up north to Qld undergoing full resto, ie, Craig's car.

Jdstaz details I will add to the list.

I had a lot of knock backs from Mitsubishi Australia (MMAL) in trying to find the history of the red JD #0043 saying records were too old.
(Funny how it was registered as JD #0041)!
It was actually through their WARRANTY records where they were able to confirm that the car was released in Australia with all the correct details....
